Back to Nature
Imagine an outdoor playground with an abundance of natural resources. Across Tallapoosa County, much of the land has been converted back to its natural state or planted in pine and hardwood trees. Forestry is the #1 industry, but hunting and fishing also contribute a significant amount to our economy. Whitetail deer, wild turkey, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and other game and fish are found throughout the county. With 750 miles of beautiful shoreline and endless sloughs to discover, it is little wonder Lake Martin is considered the hidden jewel of Alabama.
Alexander City is a birding paradise. Forests, hills, meadows, sloughs, and beaches dot the landscape, creating a plethora of avian habitats. From the majestic bald eagle, symbol of our nation's heritage, to the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, to the crowd-pleasing painted bunting, hundreds of species of birds grace the blue skies above Lake Martin and Alexander City.
