Developing and Inspiring the Lake Martin area's community leaders.

Mission
The mission of Leadership Lake Martin is to
create an active network of informed, committed, qualified and concerned citizens to guide the future of the Lake Martin area and improve the quality of life.
Overview
Leadership Lake Martin is a nine-month leadership training program designed to inform, inspire, and empower community leaders throughout the Lake Martin area. The comprehensive classes provide emerging leaders with a broader understanding and heightened awareness of the problems, opportunities, and resources in our area.
Participation
Participants will form a core group of leaders who serve Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties. Each Leadership class will be comprised of representatives from diverse backgrounds representing business, industry, education, healthcare and the private sector. The program's small, intimate classes are structured for a meaningful interchange of ideas and views by all participants. Leadership Lake Martin is a ten month program. Class orientation is held in August, and a two-day retreat follows in September. Day-long class sessions are held October through April, with the year culminating in May for Leadership graduation.
Class Projects
A significant component of the Leadership Lake Martin Class is the class project. Each class member will work in a group to research an issue relevant to the community. Each project becomes a learning activity in which class members develop team building skills by working together to create real solutions to challenges/opportunities. Previous projects have included: an “outdoor classroom” at Radney Elementary School; The Gift of Music band instrument drive for Dadeville High School; Lake Martin Clean-up Day; and the development of the Multi-Purpose Recreational Trail at the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex. Projects are presented to community members during the graduation exercises in May.
Leadership Alumni Association
Graduates from Leadership Lake Martin have the opportunity and are encouraged to join the Leadership Alumni Association. This group is comprised of graduates from both Leadership Lake Martin and the former Leadership Tallapoosa County. In addition to networking events, the Leadership Alumni Association provides tuition scholarships to potential class members seeking financial aid. Over 120 members strong, the Alumni Association's goal is to ensure the continued strength of the Leadership Lake Martin curriculum, as well as staying “plugged in” to former classmates and project groups.
Board of Directors
The Leadership Lake Martin Board of Directors meets monthly to provide the direction, recruitment and curriculum of the current Leadership class. The Board serves as the policy making/governing body for the program and members take a very active role in each monthly agenda.
Leadership Lake Martin is sponsored in partnership by the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce and Central Alabama Community College. For additional information, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 256-234-3461 , or Susanfoy@charter.net
