
Monitors issues of public policy and legislation at the local, state and federal levels and to make policy and position recommendations to the Chamber Board of Directors on key issues impacting chamber members.
Governmental Affairs Committee

The mission of the Governmental Affairs committee is to be informed and responsive to the political actions at the local, state and national levels; be informed of political actions from the Business Council of Alabama and US Chamber of Commerce; heighten the visibility and credibility of the Chamber as an organization keenly interested in government actions as they affect Alexander City and the Lake Martin area. To be proactive in lobbying legislative entities on pertinent projects/initiatives specified by the Chamber Board of Directors.
Goals
Meet with Congressman Mike Rogers, Senator Richard Shelby and Senator Jeff Sessions, Governor Bob Riley, Representative Betty Carol Graham, Senator Ted Little, and their key staffers, to update them on projects/requests from the chamber.
Organize a Washington fly-in to meet with the national delegation in September.
Invite governmental officials to chamber board meetings on a regular basis.
Sponsor two quarterly luncheons.
Incorporate a new system of keeping the Alexander City Council abreast of all chamber activities/projects/objectives. Have a committee representative in attendance of Council meetings at least once a month. The Council meets on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00.
Attend County Commission meetings when appropriate. The County meets on the 2nd Monday at 9:00 am .
Coordinate legislative trips to Montgomery for the Jr. Ambassadors and Leadership Lake Martin in February.
Participate in the Chamber of Commerce Association Leadership Day, Legislative reception, Annual Meeting, and Summer Conference.
Attend the Business Council of Alabama's Governmental Affairs Conference, The BCA Chairman's Dinner, and the BCA Annual Meeting.
Co-sponsor the Holiday Breakfast for chamber members, elected officials and city department managers in December.
