Education

Alexander City is proud of our public school system.  This unique system includes a separate school for grades kindergarten through second, third through fourth, fifth through sixth, seventh through eighth, and ninth through twelfth.  The school system educates approximately 3,400 students with 266 teachers of which 99% are highly qualified and 61% have advanced degrees and 110 support personnel.  Alexander City is also home to Central Alabama Community College, a two-year college that provides a quality education to more than 1800 students.

The students served by our system are racially, economically, and educationally diverse.  Children grow and learn together in a strong system where behavioral expectations are threefold: Be respectful, resourceful and responsible.

Students receive numerous opportunities and experiences beyond the classroom that broaden and support their learning environment. Enrichment programs including chess, foreign languages, art, theatre, music, broadcasting, and film making are offered. Benjamin Russell High School provides graduation exam remediation, ACT workshops, Honors and Advanced Placement classes, and dual enrollment with Central Alabama Community College..

The Alexander City Schools Education Foundation continuously provides financial support to enhance our system and ensure that our students have access to the latest technology and equipment.  In addition, The Alexander City Chamber Foundation provides the Gateway to Education Scholarship Assistance Program for all graduating Seniors at BRHS to attend Central Alabama Community College for free.
