Community Development

This committee focuses on improving quality of life issues and enhancing the Alexander City area as a desirable location to live and raise families.

This committee focuses on business recruitment including retail, restaurants, small business ventures, and other commercial development projects. In addition, this committee participates in organizations/events which focus on enhancing the quality of life aspects of the area.


Goals

•  Work with the University of Alabama to incorporate an Alabama Entrepreneurial Research Network center within the Chamber of Commerce building.

•  Update and maintain the comprehensive database of existing buildings, commercial space and available land for development.

•  Resurrect the Highway 280 corridor study, which would emphasize access management to the River Bridge .

•  Devise a landscape ordinance/architecture/standards/review committee.

•  Take a delegation of elected officials and community leaders on an inner community visit to the Shoals area ( Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia) in February.

•  Purchase promotional items to distribute at trade shows.

•  Attend the International Council of Shopping Centers Southeastern Show in Atlanta .

•  Attend the ICSC National Convention in May.

•  Improve our display board with photos of current projects, attractions and investments. Expand photo database for use in marketing materials.

•  Chamber to be represented on other community boards such as the City Coordination Committee, Main Street Alexander City , Industrial Development Board of Alexander City, and Lake Martin Economic Development Alliance.

•  Investigate the feasibility of producing a “Best of LAKE” publication to include in recruitment packets.

•  Develop and implement an image campaign for Alexander City .

•  Have quarterly round table meetings with representatives along Highway 280 including Childersburg, Sylacauga, Dadeville, and Opelika/Auburn.

•  Investigate the feasibility of working with the PTA on a community marquee sign at BRHS.
